Designer Kat has always had a passion for jewellery. From the early age of 8 selling handmade Fimo pendants to fossicking through her Grandmothers bead drawers a career in jewellery seemed inevitable. One Christmas holiday she sat on the jetty at her family bach in the Marlborough Sounds and asked herself: ‘If I could do anything, what would it be?’ It was a thrilling realisation – she wanted to be a jewellery designer. From that moment on she didn’t look back and made her glittering dream a reality with KAGI.
Pearls also hold a special place in Kat's heart. Kat's great Grandmother was in a prisoner of war camp during World War 2 in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia.) Here she hid her most precious possession, her freshwater pearl necklace, in her undergarments. All other jewellery and possessions were taken but the strands of pearls, to this day, are still are in Kat's family.
